Smart Tips

Be an eco-rock star and get unplugged

Pop your cell phone charger out when it’s not in use
Pull the prongs out from the blender when you’re not smoothing juice
Leave your electric toothbrush off and on the sink to rest
And in the Earth’s future you’ll be sure to invest

Besides unplugging cords and chargers that might be sucking up extra unnecessary wattage, the easiest thing you can do to reduce your energy consumption is to purchase CFLs or compact fluorescent lamps (light bulbs).

The Benefits

  • Not only is their spiral shape funky, but they can use up to 75% less energy while providing the same amount of light as your regular light bulbs.
  • CFLs last much longer than regular bulbs (7 to 10 years!) and can save you big bucks on your electric bill over time.
  • Bulbs with lower wattage can provide the romantic mood lighting you need to make your move—go get’em, tiger!
  • Selling CFLs makes for a new and unique fundraiser for your school, club or organization. Raise money and help the environment at the same time!

It may take a moment for the CFLs to "warm up", and produce their full level of brightness. Don't worry, they still pump out the same amount of light while pumping out less power.
