No Butts Allowed
Its time to enjoy a day in the sun With wavy shores and sandy fun Just remember it's not your personal ashtray And help keep the beach a clean place to play
Beachy Clean
If you're headed out to the beach and you happen to be a smoker, take extra precautions to make sure you won't be leaving any butts behind. Cigarette butts are one of the most commonly found littered items left behind on the beach and are toxic to the environment
If you must... use an empty bottle to put your old butts in, or sit near a trashcan so that you can easily throw them away when you're done. Cigarette butts are not biodegradable and are made from 12,000 plastic fibers.
While you may know the risks of smoking, that doesn't mean the surrounding wildlife does. One cigarette butt alone can pollute up to 3 liters of ocean water and the ones that aren't washed away are often thought to be food by small animals living on the beach.
