Clean-Up Position
Major League Baseball and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) have teamed up to establish the Team Greening Program, which supports and coordinates the many environmentally sensitive practices now being pursued by almost every Major League Baseball Club.
- Each team has received a customized green guide that features team-specific steps designed to help each organization understand eco-friendly practices and to help them evaluate and implement eco-intelligent decisions and actions.
- The MLB keeps it green for the 80th All-Star Game and All-Star Week 2009. This included everything from the electricity used at Busch Stadium during the All-Star events being offset by purchased wind-energy certificates, to ensuring that all the stadium's toilet paper came from 100% post-consumer content.
- The Philadelphia Phillies became the first Major League Baseball team to join the Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Partnership. Amongst other eco-initiatives, the Phillies gave 100 fans a one-year credit to secure clean renewable energy for their home consumption and continue to provide the credit for all their employees.
MLB.com has created an interactive website specifically detailing Major League Baseball's Team Greening Program, which includes news, videos, photos, and merchandise.
The Natural Resources Defense Council has set up the GreenSports website which gives you access to each MLB team's customized green guide.
